Have you been to the Village at Shirlington in recent months/years? It keeps expanding with new shops, restaurants, a new performing arts theater and library, residential, a hotel, parking garages, etc. Well, tomorrow (Saturday), they’re hosting a pet festival of sorts, called Wags ‘n’ Whiskers. Show them how much we appreciate their dog-friendly approach to business!
Village at Shirlington’s Wags ‘n’ Whiskers

Village at Shirlington is located across the water & road from the Shirlington Community Canine Area/Dog Park.
Yes, the Towers Park CCA (aka Scott Street Dog Park or Towers Park Dog Park) is active, healthy, and thriving. As you can see from the gap between the previous posts and this one, the website has not been updated frequently but we’re hoping to change that soon.
We’re in the process of working out all the details, but stay tuned for more information in the very near future.
Also, did you know that there is a Yahoo! Group email list for Towers CCA? It has over 100 members and is a great way for receiving announcements straight to your email.

To honor and dedicate the lights of our park, the county and the sponsoring group of the Towers CCA are hosting a lighting ceremony, on Sunday, October 22nd, at 4:00pm! So mark your calendars, and join us for this wonderful occasion! We want to thank everyone involved in making it through this long and arduous process… and to thank the community and regular users of Towers CCA for their overwhelming support
See you at the park!
UPDATE:
The ceremony will be a park dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony, including a commemorative tree planting to recognize the unfortunate passing away of the two dogs that were victims of the poisonings at Towers. We invite you to join us, and also to participate in the potluck picnic, outside the park, following the event!

After months of no new updates, we finally have news to share! The county approved the full funding for our lighting project, and we are currently underway of choosing our contractor to install them
So be on the lookout for more news and updates as this process starts to speed up, and we’ll let you know as we find out!
In other news, it’s been reported that dog owners have been using the tennis courts and the practice courts to play with their dogs. Number one, it’s against the rules to have animals on the courts, as it damages both the court surface, and the animal’s pads. Second, tennis users associate dogs on the court with the dog park, and it reflects very negatively on the park’s regular users. So if you see someone using the courts with their dogs, please point out the “no animals on courts” rule, posted plainly on the fence.
Thank you, and I hope everyone has been enjoying the park!

Just wanted to give a HUGE thank you to all of you that helped meet our fundraiser goal for lighting the Towers CCA. Our last fundraiser was a great success! With this money, we have reached and exceeded our goal, and look forward to presenting the overwhelming community support to the county with our Park Enhancement Grant application.
So many people were very generous with both their time and their donations… we really couldn’t have done it without them!
As for the project timeline, we are submitting our application for the grant, and we will know early next year whether we have been approved. So the schedule looks on track for having lights for next fall… in the meantime, we are still working on an official waiver, to grant us permission to use the tennis court lights THIS season. We’ll post updates on the process as it continues… in the meantime, check back for announcements for future parties and events at the park!
Again, thank you SO MUCH for all that you have done!

For those of you that are still looking for ways to help contribute to our lighting fund, or to volunteer your time for the park, we are having another fundraiser this weekend. So on Saturday, September 17 from 9:30am – 4pm, we are having a Car/Dog Wash at Patrick Henry Elementary School located at 701 S. Highland St (corner of 7th and Highland). If you have a couple of free hours that day, and would like to volunteer, please contact Ed at miltenberger@afsa.org. Otherwise, spread the word, and we will see you on Saturday, soap and buckets ready!
